Pre-school Groups

We currently run two Pre-School groups:

CLEVER CLOGS
has children attending from 2 to 5 years of age and runs each term time morning from 9.30 am to 12.00 pm in the main building.

PLUTOS
Our full time pre-school room where children can get involved in a variety of activities.

The learning environment is inspected by Ofsted to ensure we are providing a high standard of care and education. Our last inspection recommended another inspection in two to four years (this is the maximum time limit between inspections). As we are inspected by Ofsted it enables us to receive grant money for all 3 and 4 year olds. This covers the cost of a 2 ½ hour session each day. For more information on this please speak to Sue who will be able to inform you on individual cases.

EARLY LEARNING GOALS

The Nursery aims to prepare pre-school children for the challenge of school life and to give them a basic knowledge of the key elements of the National Curriculum. There are six Early Learning Goals for pre-school children within which are stepping stones to work towards. These are focused on when planning our activities, so that by the age of 5 each child will....

  • In Personal, Social and Emotional Development:

... have confidence and self respect; behave in appropriate ways; be aware of right and wrong; work well in groups and understand sharing; treat living things and their environment with care and concern; be able to build relationships; be able to choose activities and work independently and gain personal independence (e.g. washing hands, dressing).

  • In Communication, Language and Literacy:

... listen attentively to stories; sing songs; use increasing vocabulary to express themselves; make up their own stories; use, explore and enjoy books - learning to use them correctly and respect them; recognise the alphabet by shapes and sounds and write their name unaided.

  • In Mathematical Development:

... recognise and copy mathematical patterns; compare, sort, match, order and count everyday objects; be familiar with counting games and rhymes; recognise and use numbers one to ten.

  • In Knowledge and Understanding of the World:

... talk about their families and past and present experiences; talk about where they live and their experiences; ask questions about why things happen and how they work; use technology to support their learning (e.g. computers, tape recorders, programmable toys).

  • In Physical Development:

... move confidently and imaginatively with increasing control, co-ordination and an awareness of space and others; use a range of large and small equipment with increasing skill; handle appropriate tools, objects, construction and malleable materials safely and with increasing control.

  • In Creative Development:

... explore sound, colour, texture, shape and form; respond to what they see, hear, smell, touch and feel; show increasing ability to listen, observe and use imagination; use tools, musical instruments and other resources; to encourage drawing and painting development and to express ideas to communicate feelings.

The Foundation Stage Curriculum is used to plan half-termly topics, which help the children progress towards the Early Learning Goals. You will receive a letter about the topic giving you our aims and how you can participate in your child's development.

  • As the children may be starting school part-time in this group, we may be able to offer to take your child to school from Nursery and pick them up in the afternoon, if they are attending a local school. They can also join the Out of Schools Clubs subject to availability. If you would like to make use of this service, please speak to Sue as soon as possible.
